The Squid from SurgeX is a universal AC and DC power distributor featuring a variety of protection, conditioning, and control and monitoring functions. With its versatile 230V / 24V / 12V / 5V power outputs and compact form factor, the Squid is designed for maximum installation flexibility. It can be mounted on a wall, a table, or at the front of a device rack, providing utmost freedom in any environment. It is equipped with an internal web server accessible via the SurgeX software, offering configuration options, output control, monitoring interfaces, and access to timestamped data logs that can contain a variety of electrical parameters. Multiple communication interface options such as Ethernet and USB are supported.

SurgeX Power Protection and Management - Every Job Requires Precise and Reliable Voltage

The SurgeX Squid is designed to meet the unique requirements of today's small meeting rooms and digital signage/video applications, combining a range of performance features and functionalities in an extremely compact design. It introduces a new category for power quality by offering fully integrated network control and AC/DC protection in a single application. The Squid combines both AC and DC outputs with advanced surge protection, power conditioning, energy management, and analytics software, thus eliminating the need for separate AC and DC products and another for monitoring and controlling the energy environment. The multi-stage surge protection and EMI/RFI filtering technology of SurgeX protect both the DC output power and the AC outputs. Additionally, it features a catastrophic over/under voltage shutdown, which withstands surge impulse voltages up to 6000V, as well as a self-test circuit with a software-activated indicator. Moreover, the Squid enables remote monitoring and control through a network operations center over Ethernet or locally via the USB-OTG port.

Connectivity and Control
All three Squid versions are equipped with a 230V AC input via an IEC C14 plug. Their four 230V AC IEC C13 sockets can be loaded together with a maximum load capacity of 10A. The four AC outputs are joined by two 12V or 24V DC outputs, each sharing a load capacity of max. 10A / 5A (depending on the model), each with two individual terminal strips for detachable power cords. All four AC sockets and both DC banks can be individually controlled, monitored, and switched. Control options include remote on and off switching and reboot functions, all enabled via the SurgeX software. To complete the universal power supply concept, there is an unswitched 5V DC output with detachable terminal as well as two 5V USB-A sockets, sharing a maximum load capacity of 3A. It is also possible to switch the AC input of the AC/DC converter to power the DC Output 1 / 2 banks. Due to the limitations of the IEC power connection, the maximum output power of the Squid is 10A / 240V / 2400W for all outputs / sockets combined.

Programming - Triggers & Actions
The extensive programming capabilities of the Squid offer advanced sequencing and scheduling functions. Triggers can be programmed to activate on the principle of "if X, then Y, then Z, if no more X". Trigger sources include various AC power measurements, scheduling, and autoping. Actions include turning on and off sockets, switching a socket, executing previously defined sequences, and shutting down a device. For example, an action can be created to turn off a network device if it does not respond to a ping. Furthermore, two physical reset buttons with various functions are located on the front of the Squid.

Monitoring
Squid's internal web server offers a comprehensive portal for configuration, monitoring, and control. The RJ45 connection for Ethernet connectivity is located on the back, the standard IP address is assigned via DHCP. A discovery tool is provided by SurgeX. The mDNS protocol is supported for dynamic device discovery. The Ethernet connection for web server integration supports the protocols HTTP, HTTPS, SNMPv1, SNMPv3, NTP, mDNS, 802.1x, and LDAP with TLS, SSL, and SNMP V3 single sign-on options.

Measurements are performed at the system level and include AC line voltage, AC neutral voltage, AC current, AC power, AC line frequency, AC power factor, AC voltage crest factor, AC energy, and temperature. The measurements of voltage, current, and power are true RMS, thus correctly reporting the power consumption and energy usage of non-linear electronic loads that have a power factor of less than one. Time-stamped events that can be recorded include triggers, surge protection failures, power outages, network events, socket changes, shutdown operations, and firmware upgrades. The historical data are a record of the measured electrical parameters and can be set to capture specific elements at specified intervals. The electrical Max/Min/Avg parameters are stored in the internal memory for 30 days.

The USB-OTG port features a microUSB connector and can be used for out-of-band (OOB) diagnostics, configuration, and troubleshooting of IP connection issues. A discovery tool is provided by SurgeX, alternatively, the IP can be directly accessed via a web browser. The webserver is always accessible over this USB-OTG port (HTTP on Port 80).

Installation
The Squid is highly compact, allowing it to be mounted on, behind, or near devices, and can be horizontally or vertically mounted on a wall or a table. The universally mountable device is housed in a magnetically shielding steel enclosure, thus it can also be mounted at the front of a device rack. For the installation of Squid, integrated mounting brackets are available that meet local regulations and requirements.
