MODBUS is a communication protocol for exchanging messages between intelligent MODBUS modules. Communication takes place via a network with RS-485 interfaces. The MODBUS protocol supports master-slave operation between the modules.
In almost all automation systems and advanced control systems, the RS-485 interface is used because it has not such limitations as e.g. the RS-232 interface and it uses the differential procedure for data transmission, what is its main feature.
