SurgeX Power Protection and Management - Every Application Requires Precise and Reliable Voltage

The SurgeX Squid was designed to meet the unique requirements of today's small meeting rooms and digital signage/video applications, combining a range of performance features and functions in an extremely compact design. It introduces a new category for power quality by offering fully enclosed network control and AC/DC protection in a single application. The Squid combines both AC and DC outputs with advanced surge protection, power conditioning, energy management, and analysis software, eliminating the need to install separate products for AC and DC and another for monitoring and controlling the energy environment. SurgeX's multistage surge protection and EMI/RFI filter technology protect both the DC output power and the AC outputs. Additionally, it features a catastrophic over/under voltage shutdown that withstands surge impulse voltages of up to 6000V, as well as a self-test circuit with software-driven display. Furthermore, the Squid allows for remote monitoring and control through a network operations center over Ethernet or locally via the USB-OTG port.

Connectivity and Control
All three Squid versions are equipped with a 230V AC input via an IEC C14 connector. The four 230V AC IEC C13 outlets can handle a maximum load capacity of 10A. Alongside the four AC outputs are two 12V or 24V DC outputs, each sharing a load capacity of max. 10A / 5A (depending on the model), each with two individual terminal strips for removable power cords. All four AC sockets and both DC banks can be individually controlled, monitored, and switched. Control options include remote on/off switching and reboot functions, all enabled through the SurgeX software. To complete the universal power supply concept, there's an unswitched 5V DC output with a removable terminal, as well as two 5V USB-A sockets sharing a maximum load capacity of 3A. It is also possible to switch the AC input of the AC/DC converter to feed the DC Output 1 / 2 banks. Due to the limitations of the IEC power connection, the maximum output power of the Squid is 10A / 240V / 2400W for all outputs/outlets combined.

Programming - Triggers & Actions
The extensive programming capabilities of the Squid offer advanced sequencing and scheduling operations. Triggers can be programmed to activate on the principle of "if X, then Y, then Z, if not X anymore." Trigger sources include various AC power measurements, scheduling, and Autoping. Actions include turning outlets on and off, switching an outlet, executing pre-defined sequences, and shutting down a device. For instance, an action can be created to turn off a network device if it does not respond to a ping. In addition, there are two physical reset buttons on the front of the Squid with various functions.

Monitoring
Squid's internal web server provides a comprehensive portal for configuration, monitoring, and control. The RJ45 connection for Ethernet connectivity is located on the back, the standard IP address is assigned via DHCP. A discovery tool is provided by SurgeX. The mDNS protocol is supported for dynamic device discovery. The Ethernet connection for webserver integration supports protocols HTTP, HTTPS, SNMPv1, SNMPv3, NTP, mDNS, 802.1x, and LDAP with TLS, SSL, and SNMP V3 single-sign-on options.

Measurements are taken at the system level and include AC line voltage, AC neutral-to-earth voltage, AC current, AC power, AC line frequency, AC power factor, AC voltage crest factor, AC energy, and temperature. Measurements of voltage, current, and power are true RMS, thus the power consumption and energy use of non-linear electronic loads, which have a power factor of less than one, are correctly reported. Time-stamped events that can be recorded include triggers, surge protection failures, power outages, network events, outlet changes, shutdown operations, and firmware upgrades. Historical data is a record of measured electrical parameters and can be set to capture specific elements at specified intervals. The max/min/avg electrical parameters are stored in internal memory for 30 days.

The USB-OTG port features a microUSB connector and can be used for OOB diagnostics, configuration, and troubleshooting IP connection issues. A discovery tool is provided by SurgeX, alternatively, the IP can be reached directly via a web browser. The webserver is always accessible over this USB-OTG connection (HTTP on Port 80).

Installation
The Squid is very compact and can be mounted beside, behind, or near devices, and can be mounted horizontally or vertically on a wall or a table. The universally mountable device is housed in a magnetically shielded steel enclosure and can thus also be mounted at the front of a rack unit. Integrated mounting brackets are available for the installation of Squid, which meet the relevant local regulations and requirements.
