PD51, RS-232/RS-485 Interface Converter/Repeater
The PD51 converter from LUMEL is a digital device destined to convert the RS-232 interface into the industrial interface RS-485 without interfering with the format and structure of the transmitted data.
It enables the increase of the RS-485 bus range and the number of devices in the network with an RS-485 bus.
It ensures the automatic control of the data flow direction.
The RS-232 interface is commonly accepted, but since it has a limited range and restricted working possibilities, it is not used in industrial data transmission systems. In almost all automation systems and advanced control systems, the RS-485 interface is used because it has not such limitations and utilises the differential procedure for data transmission, what is its main feature.
The PD51 converter has two RS-485 ports which are galvanically isolated from each other. This allows its further use as a repeater (amplifier of RS-485 network signals), which increases the distance of the information sent.
The converter/repeater can be used as follows:
- for connecting a PC to industrial networks
- in applications where it is necessary to connect a PC with visualization software to an RS-485 interface
- in circuits which require automatic control of the data flow direction
